During Black History Month, we are proud to spotlight the incredible Crewmembers who make remarkable contributions to the OTG team every day. This month, we invited Crewmembers from across our airports to reflect on what Black History Month means to them, share their inspirations, and discuss the importance of being part of an inclusive workplace. We’re honored to share their thoughtful responses with you.

Black History Month is a time to honor the contributions and achievements of Black individuals while reflecting on the ongoing fight against racism and inequality. It highlights the importance of diversity, inclusion, and social justice, reminding us of the resilience of the human spirit and the value of learning from the past to create a better future. My greatest inspiration has been my upbringing. The challenges I faced during childhood motivated me to strive for better opportunities for myself and my future. It’s essential for OTG to celebrate Black History Month because many OTG employees are African American. Recognizing their community fosters a sense of inclusion and ensures their voices are heard and valued. OTG has supported me throughout college, and my advice to others is that it’s never too late to start over. Trust in God’s timing—what’s meant for you will always be yours.

Black History Month is a time to honor and appreciate Blackness, reflect on the hidden contributions of ancestors, and acknowledge progress while recognizing the work that remains. My greatest inspiration is my remarkable mother, whose guidance has shaped my journey. OTG supports this recognition by celebrating the rich history and achievements of the Black community, fostering inclusion and respect for diverse experiences.

Black History Month provides an opportunity to celebrate achievements while acknowledging the ongoing journey toward equity. It’s also a time to reflect on the sacrifices that paved the way for today’s opportunities and to recognize the responsibility to continue driving progress. Family, especially a mother who exemplified perseverance and authenticity, has been my greatest inspiration. Professionally, seeing the leadership success of Black women highlights the importance of representation and inspires others to strive for excellence. At OTG, celebrating Black History Month fosters inclusion, education, and connection while showcasing the contributions of Black leaders. This reflects OTG’s commitment to diversity and underscores the importance of uplifting Black voices year-round. OTG has supported my career through mentorship, leadership opportunities, and a strong sense of community. My advice to others is to stay curious, seek guidance, advocate for yourself, and embrace challenges as stepping stones for personal and professional growth.

Black History Month is a vital time to recognize the significance of the journey and the challenges Black people have faced to achieve equality and secure their rights as citizens. For me, my family has been my greatest inspiration during Black History Month. Celebrating it at OTG is essential because it allows us to honor and reflect on the incredible achievements in Black history that have paved the way for where we stand today. It’s also an opportunity to emphasize the importance of growth, a value deeply upheld at OTG. OTG has played a significant role in my career development by offering numerous opportunities to learn and grow within the company. It has also helped me acquire valuable skills that extend beyond the workplace, enriching my personal and professional life.

Black History Month has evolved into a celebration of resilience, perseverance, and the extraordinary accomplishments of Black individuals throughout history. Once a solemn reminder of past injustices, it is now an opportunity to uncover untold stories, honor the contributions that have shaped our world, and reflect on the importance of striving for a brighter future. Rooted in faith as a Christian, my journey has been shaped by the guidance of my praying grandmother and mother, whose influence has kept me grounded in the values of perseverance and hope that define Black culture. At OTG, celebrating Black History Month is essential for fostering inspiration, diversity, learning, and progress. Seeing Black men and women in leadership roles motivates everyone to break barriers and envision new possibilities. A diverse workforce fuels creativity and innovation, while reflecting on Black history deepens our understanding of the struggles and triumphs that have shaped society. OTG’s supportive environment has been pivotal in my development, offering opportunities for growth through leadership training, financial education, and strong professional relationships. My advice to others is to embrace continuous growth—because standing still is, in essence, choosing not to move forward.
